Due to the widespread unemployment among the Roma population compared to the total population in Serbia, this research provides answers to some of the causes and helps to better understand the specifics of the labor market and the unemployed Roma. This research identifies: the needs of local employers in terms of the type of skilled workforce; sectors with high growth potential that can provide opportunities for entrepreneurs and start-ups, employment trends, informal and formal labor market rules, the effects of racial, cultural and gender norms, and the impact of government policies on employment trends.
The final outcome of the research is recommendations for: vocational training courses to provide unemployed Roma with skills required in the labor market, business training for unemployed Roma seeking self-employment, strengthening stakeholders in addressing labor market constraints and understanding the types of skills required in the labor market and job search mechanisms for unemployed Roma.
